As part of an ongoing investigation of the alleged dispute between John Galliano and a French couple, the designer has been ordered to meet with one of his accusers at a Paris police station tomorrow afternoon.
Galliano will sit down with Géraldine Bloch who claims he made anti-Semitic remarks to her. Yesterday Galliano filed adefamation claim against Bloch and Philippe Virgiti, who was also involved in the skirmish. Galliano could face six months in jail and/or a fine equal to $30,942 if found guilty of insult, and the couple could face one year in jail and/or a fine equal to $62,884 if found guilty of defamation.
As far as the timeline is concerned, Galliano’s lawyerStéphane Zerbib had this to say: “They have to find out the truth. If the public prosecutor’s office decides it is an emergency case, things could go very quickly.”
Several witnesses have come to Galliano’s defense, while police reports obtained by French newspaper Le Figaro tell the story from the accusers’ perspectives. According to Bloch and Virgiti (and Google Translate), Galliano verbally attacked them at Parisian cafe La Perle, yelling at Bloch: “Dirty Jew face, you should be dead!” while grabbing her hair. He is accused of then turning to Virgiti and screaming: “Fucking bastard Asian, I will kill you!” The conversation allegedly continued as such (again, the translation reads a bit awkwardly):
Galliano: “Shut up, bitch! I cannot stand your voice, you dirty whore!”
Bloch: “You’re so ugly, I do not support your vision!”
Galliano: “You have low-end boots. You have no hair, your eyebrows are ugly. You’re disgusting, you’re a whore! I am the designer John Galliano!”
Galliano (to Virgiti): “I’ll kill you!”
Dior suspended Galliano following the incident. His Paris Fashion Week runway show for the house is scheduled to take place March 4th.
